Cafe Di Bruno Signage, October 2020

ABC was thrilled to be a part of Derek Weston’s fitout of the new Di Bruno Brother’s Cafe in the Ardmore Farmer’s Market, Cafe Di Bruno.

Overall, Derek was tasked with the demo of the previous cabinets, and the fabrication and installation of three custom black walnut cabinets, several printed signs, and two custom engraved wooden signs.

ABC assisted with the custom signage, which included the double sided round sign and the six foot sign above the register. Both signs were created using the same process. First, baltic birch plywood was primed and painted white.

Next, a masking tape was applied. This mask allowed for the engraving to cut without exposing the white paint. The carving bit, which is angled, clears away the mask rather than ripping it, which can ruin a project like this.

Once the carving is complete (run twice to get rid of the fuzzies), the painting and sanding of the carved areas begins. Two for the shallow cuts, three for the deep cuts. This leads us to the second most satisfying part, ripping off the mask.

Once this mask is ripped off, and some minor touchups are made, the large sign was ready to hang. The smaller sign included a printed insert, which was glue into place. Check out the finished results!
